A workplace accident occurred where a large steel beam fell on top of a53 year-old Napier construction worker and killed him. The accident took placed around 3:45 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. When the ambulance staff arrived they found the man on the floor, unconscious and bleeding. The man was struck on the head by a steel beam. The ambulance staff tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:05 PM.
According to officials, the steel beam was being prepared to be put into place by a lifting machine. The man died from severe head injuries from the heavy beam falling on him. As a result, investigations are now taking place to inspect the safety of the site.
