Street Race Car Crash Kills 1, Injures 6

On May 26, 2013, a street race killed one woman and injured six people in South Gate. The incident took place a little after midnight when a 20 year-old driver was racing his 2003 Acura. The 20 year-old ran through a red light at Alameda Street and Firestone Boulevard. He crashed his vehicle into a 1997 Honda that was being driven by a 24 year-old woman from Los Angeles. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The 20 year-old driver also hit another vehicle which was a 2008 Honda being driven by a 50 year-old woman from South Gate. She was taken to a nearby hospital for serious injuries. Within her vehicle was a 15 year-old boy and 16 year-old girl who only suffered minor injuries.

The 20 year-old driver obtained moderate injuries along with his passengers, a 17 and 21 year-old male. The driver was later arrested for multiple violations including street racing and vehicular manslaughter. Police officials are still searching for information about any cars involved in the street race. They encourage anyone with information to contact the CHP’s South L.A. office.
