On Thursday, August 22, 2013, a construction work was
seriously injured after a piece of heavy equipment struck him. The accident occurred
in Odenton, Maryland on the 2600-block of Conway Road in Anne Arundel County.
The accident took place around 8 AM that Thursday morning.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they found
the 40 year-old worker suffering from an incomplete amputation of his right
leg. His leg was severely damaged. They transported the man to Shock Trauma
with non-life threatening injuries that were serious.
A firefighter at the scene of the accident also suffered an
injury, but fortunately it was minor and he is being treated at a nearby
hospital. While there were no other injuries, many officials are investigating
the accident. Maryland Occupation Safety is also investigating the accident as
well.
Construction Work
Accidents
Construction workers everywhere face the risk of dangerous
accidents and injuries. Many construction sites are highly dangerous and fail
to measure under safety regulations. For that reason, numerous construction
workers are injured everywhere. The construction company is responsible for
teaching workers practical safety measures and protecting their safety. If a
construction company fails to do this, then they can be held liable for the
construction worker’s injuries.
This does not just apply to construction sites though. All
places of employment must ensure the safety of their workers from restaurant
workers, to those at chemical labs, and plants. The employer must provide an
environment that protects the safety of their worker. Any event that poses a
risk to employees can cause the company to be fined.
If you feel that your workplace is dangerous, you should
contact OSHA. OSHA will conduct a quick inspection of your workplace and inform
workers on the best safety practices for your workplace.
