Innocent Bystander Killed in Street Race

On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, a fiery collision killed one driver and damaged eight vehicles. The accident occurred in South Los Angeles and officials believe that street racing may have been the cause of the collision. The crash took place on W. Manchester Avenue near Broadway.

The innocent bystander killed in the crash was a male driving a Saturn. Unfortunately, the man was hit by a silver Pontiac causing the fiery crash. According to police officials, the driver of the Pontiac survived the crash and fled the scene.

Investigators report that the Pontiac was racing a Dodge Charger that was traveling against traffic. Around the same time the Pontiac crashed into the Saturn, the Dodge Charger slammed into a pickup truck. The driver of both the Dodge and pickup truck were taken to a nearby hospital.

Ultimately, eight cars were damaged in both of the car accidents. One bicyclist was also involved. Overall, three people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries resulting from the street racing car accidents. Los Angeles Police Officials are still searching for clues regarding the driver of the Pontiac and encourage those with information to contact their South Traffic Division.

Prevalence of Street Racing

Today, street racing is glorified by popular films like the Fast and the Furious and various video games. However, this driving practice is highly illegal and leaves many innocent bystanders in harm’s way. Street racing is a clear disregard for public safety and may not only harm the driver, but nearby motorists and pedestrians as well.

The best way to prevent street racing accidents is to refrain from street racing and inform others of the dangers of drag racing. Street racing is not only dangerous, but punishable by fines, criminal charges, penalties, and even imprisonment depending on the situation.

Motorcyclist Killed in Hit-And-Run Accident

On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, a motorcyclist was struck and killed in Arcadia, California. The driver who struck the motorcyclist immediately fled the scene. Police officials are searching for clues regarding the driver at fault. The accident occurred on the West Foothill Boulevard around 7 PM.

When medical officials arrived at the scene, the motorcyclist was severely injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries. The motorcycle rider was a 32 year-old father and husband from Los Angeles, California.

The vehicle is believed to be a 2006 or 2006 blue Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution with a rear spoiler. The vehicle is expected to have damage on the passenger side and may be lacking a side-view mirror. The cause of the accident is unknown, but somewhere along the boulevard the motorcycle rider and vehicle collided. The motorcyclist then hit a brick wall and came to a stop under a tree.

The street is notorious for drag racing as there are no lights for at least a mile and a half. Officials are unsure if the vehicle was racing. Anyone who has any information regarding the accident is encouraged to call the Arcadia Police Department.

How to Prevent Hit-and-Run Accidents

Hit-and-run accidents occur commonly and result in devastating injuries, if not fatal. After an accident, you should always remain at the scene and identify yourself. Stay at the scene until you receive confirmation from state highway patrol that it is okay to leave. Not doing so can lead to charges of a hit-and-run.

Committing a hit-and-run accident is punishable by fees, penalties, and even imprisonment depending on the situation. Often times, people will commit hit-and-runs so as to escape the legal consequences of the accident, but will face even worse penalties after being found by police officials.

Hit and Run Accident in Anaheim CA Injures Pedestrian

Accidents are an unavoidable reality of life.  However, hit and run accidents always seem to shock the conscience of the community.  Yesterday, an Anaheim woman was struck by a red van on Harbor Blvd. and La Palma Ave. in Anaheim, suffering severe injuries.  The driver fled the scene while the woman was taken to the emergency room.

Pedestrian accidents can be extremely dangerous. But when a driver flees the scene after striking a pedestrian, this can be especially shocking and damaging.  The police are encouraging any potential bystanders to come forward with information.

Pedestrian Accidents Cause Great Injury

The reality of life is that we are at risk for injury at every moment, whether we are sitting at home or out and about in the world.  As pedestrians, we are especially vulnerable to injury. Whether by car, truck, motorcycle or bike, pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to critical injuries which can change their entire lives in the blink of an eye. As a pedestrian, when you are struck by a vehicle of some sort, you could experience the following injuries:

  • broken bones, fractures, bruises
  • burns on your skin
  • interior organ damage
  • heart problems
  • trapped, crushed beneath a vehicle
  • fatal bleed out
  • traumatic brain injury
  • paralysis
  • paraplegia, quadriplegia
  • shock which could lead to a heart attack
  • death
We are vulnerable to injury in the face of what could be hundreds of pounds to a ton or more of steel.  As pedestrians, we don't stand a chance. If a driver loses control or is reckless or careless, pedestrians can suffer crippling and potentially life ending injuries.

If You've Been Injured

If you have been injured in a hit and run accident, you should seek immediate medical attention.  Try to gain the attention of passerby to help you get out of the way of additional vehicles which may hit you.  If you are lucid, ask a bystander to call the police and offer a statement.  Let the paramedics check you out and take you to the hospital to help you.  When you've been treated by a doctor, you may want to explore your legal rights and call an experienced personal injury lawyer.  By calling a personal injury lawyer, you will be able to preserve your rights. You may be entitled to compensation which could help you with your medical bills and help you to heal from your injuries.  Don't suffer in silence.

$20 Million Hit-and-Run Wrongful Death Case Filed in Washington Pike

Recently, a hit-and-run crash killed a man, a pregnant woman, and her unborn child in Washington Pike. The crash was allegedly caused by a driver who was driving while intoxicated.

The deceased, a man named Nelzon Soto, 45, had been driving to the rescue of a friend who ran out of gas. In the car with him had been Chasity Elaine Thornell, 24, who was pregnant at the time.

Authorities say the drunk driver, Curtis Scott Harper, 22, was intoxicated and had been given the keys of the 2004 Ford Explorer by his parents. It is alleged that Harper's parents knew about Harper's previous drunk driving records and drug abuse. However, they irresponsibly allowed him use of their car anyway.

The plaintiff also accuses the bar where Harper had been present before the crash. Most surprisingly, the attorney also names as defendant the friend who had called Thornell when she had run out of gas, thus causing Thornell to be involved in the accident.

The attorney is suing for $10 million in compensatory damages and another $10 million in punitive damages.

Harper is currently awaiting trial.

Have you been the victim of a car accident that resulted in a wrongful death?

Though accidents are impossible to avoid, you should always be on the lookout. Be careful and take preliminary cautions on the road and anywhere else.

If you have suffered the tragedy of a fatal accident, don't despair. You are not alone.

Seek legal advice

Like Thornell's surviving family members who decided to sue on her behalf, don't let your loved one's death be suffered in vain. Contact legal advice and seek damages for the pain you've endured.

After a tragedy, the last thing you need to worry about is money--but often, this is the most problematic consequence of an accident. Not only will you have to pay the bills left behind by your loved one, there will be medical costs and damage repair you will need to handle.

Don't suffer alone.

You don't have to handle any legal claims when you speak to an attorney. There are several reasons why legal advice would help you.

1.   You could earn more money for your damages. Attorneys know how to fight your battles and make the person responsible for your grief pay. It's not about revenge--it's about gaining the necessary funds you need to move on with your life.

2.   Attorneys will handle court proceedings while you get your life back in order. It's difficult to see how things can resume to the way they were after such a tragedy. But the best thing you can do after an incident like this is to move on. Get back to the normal routine of things. Your attorney can handle all the legalities while you try to put the tragedy behind you.

3.   You seek justice for your lost. Why should you suffer quietly when someone was responsible for the death of a loved one? Filing a lawsuit will not only gain you compensation and justice, but it will also warn others as to the dangers and risks of other people's negligence.

If you've been a survivor of a serious accident or have suffered from the wrongful death of a loved one, you must speak to an attorney.
